Question

My 8 year old German Shephard has had drastic weight loss, we wormed her about 2 months ago or so. But our malr shephard just past away, so we thought she was maybe greiving also? He was bad to eat all of the food if we did not watch, so we thought that was why she was thin. She looks so bad it looks as if she is neglected!!! I am very worried. Thanks!

Answer

You may want to check her for a problem with food digestion due to low pancreatic enzymes. Its seen in this breed and you can read about it here
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_exocrine_pancreatic_insufficie.html
Another possibility if there were worms 2 months ago is that she is now reinfected and needs worming again but I'd have a vet check a fresh stool sample before giving her more worm poison.
She's old enough that it might be a good idea for a thorough check up to make sure there is nothing wrong with heart, liver, kidneys etc too.
Hope this helps you!
