Already Tried:
Cleaned contacts. Checked for blown fuse, but wasn't real sure which fuse I should be looking for. Does not work with remote, with button on top console, or by pulling on either inside or outside handle.

Answer

Hello, with out getting real involved in diagnostics on the door, which can be a nightmare, because of its design, here are some simple things that you can try first. The problem is that the door is tied into so many of the other operating systems, including the park, nuetral, backup light switch, the power door lock circuit, the remote door lock circuit, etc. Give the following a try and let me know what happens. Thanks

Power Sliding Door (PSD) Re-Initialization

Important

Before you perform the PSD re-initialization, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) by performing Diagnostic Mode 1.

Refer to Diagnostic Modes for the procedure.

Perform the following PSD re-initialization procedure when any of the following conditions occur:

  • The PSD is inoperative.
  • Reconnecting the vehicle battery after being disconnected.
  • After recharging the vehicle battery due to a low or discharged battery condition.
  • After reinstalling or replacing the radio fuse located in the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  • Exiting any of the diagnostic modes. Refer to Diagnostic Information and Procedures.

Perform this procedure in order to re-initialize the PSD:

  1. Set the PSD on/off switch in the overhead console to the off position.
  2. Manually open the PSD completely.
  3. Manually close and latch the PSD.
  4. Remove the RADIO fuse for 30 seconds.
  5. Reinstall the RADIO fuse.
  6. Wait 10 seconds.
  7. Set the PSD on/off switch in the overhead console to the on position.
  8. Press, then release either PSD open/close switch in order to completely open the PSD..
  9. Wait 5 seconds.
  10. Press, then release either PSD open/close switch in order to allow the PSD to close completely.
  11. Wait 5 seconds.
  12. Repeat steps 7 through 10 and re-check for proper PSD operation.

Sorry I hadn't gotten back. We got more snow today and I had to shovel out. I went through the steps, and now the door makes a click sound when you press the open/close switch. Still not working. Not sure what that means...any help?

Answer

Hello again. Your van's door should have a self diagnostics feature built into it that will make beeps that you need to count. I would like you to read the following information and give it a try and we will see if it does us any good or not. If we can't get an idea of the problem after running the diagnostic codes or if it will not do the self diagnostics, I am afraid you will be stuck with trying to find someone who has the same class 2 scan tool that the dealers use to go any farther with it. So let me know. We are going to try to keep you from going to a dealer with it if we can. If it gives us codes, be sure to write them down so I can look them up. Thanks

The PSD contains sophisticated on-board diagnostics designed to identify the source of any PSD malfunctions, including whether or not the malfunction is intermittent. The PSD installed on domestic vehicles have seven Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and 3 diagnostic modes.

Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

` Diagnostic Modes for more information on how to read PSD DTCs.

Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in the rear side door actuator control module clear when the following actions occur:

• Exiting diagnostics. Refer to How to Exit Diagnostics in this section.
• After reinstalling or replacing the radio fuse.
• After reconnecting the vehicle battery after being disconnected.
• After recharging the vehicle battery due to a low or discharge battery condition.
Diagnostic Modes

The PSD has 3 diagnostic modes:

• Diagnostic Mode 1: Reads Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
• Diagnostic Mode 2: Inspects PSD inputs.
• Diagnostic Mode 3: Performs a test of the power sliding door unlatch actuator.

How to Enter Diagnostics

Entering PSD diagnostics is done by gaining entry into Diagnostic Mode 1. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 1.

Diagnostic Mode 2 may only be entered from Diagnostic Mode 1 after it has been performed. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 2 from Diagnostic Mode 1.

Diagnostic Mode 3 may only be entered from Diagnostic Mode 2 after it has been performed. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 3 from Diagnostic Mode 2.

The diagnostic modes can only be entered in order.

How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 1

Diagnostic Mode 1 sounds the DTCs through the power sliding door alarm. Enter Diagnostic Mode 1 by performing the following procedure:

• Turn off the power sliding door on/off switch.
• Close the sliding door manually. Ensure that the PSD is in the latched position.
• Press and hold the power sliding door open/close switch in the overhead console.
• While holding the power sliding door open/close switch, cycle quickly (on/off) the power sliding door on/off switch until Diagnostic Mode 1 is entered (a minimum of 10 cycles). The power sliding door alarm will sound for 3.2 seconds upon entering Diagnostic Mode 1.
• After entering Diagnostic Mode 1, leave the power sliding door on/off switch on.
• Release the power sliding door open/close switch.

Upon entering Diagnostic Mode 1, the following actions occur:

• The power sliding door alarm sounds for 3.2 seconds. This indicates that the Diagnostic Mode 1 is active.
• The rear side door actuator control module sounds any DTCs stored.
• A DTC consists of a 2 digit code. For example, DTC 12 has the following sequence: buzz, pause, buzz, buzz, long pause. Then repeats the DTC.
• The rear side door actuator control module repeats the same DTC 3 times before proceeding to the next DTC.
• The rear side actuator control module sounds DTC 12 when no faults are present.
• DTCs will continue to sound until there is an exit from diagnostics or going into Diagnostic Mode 2.
• Write down all DTCs stored. Otherwise the rear side door actuator control module erases DTCs upon exiting of the diagnostics.

If you want to exit diagnostics after Diagnostic Mode 1 has been completed, refer to How to Exit Diagnostics in this section. If you want to perform Diagnostic Mode 2, do not exit Diagnostic Mode 1. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 2 for procedure.

Well, I ran the test. The only thing I wasn't real sure about is that there wasn't really any buzzing...but there were audible clicking sounds--like the sound you hear when your hazards are on. In any case it came back with code 12. ??

Accepted Answer

Bummer, looks like we are up the creek without a paddle. If it is a code 12, that indicates that there is no problem or no code stored in the self diagnostics. What that means to you and me is that there is no practical way for us to test the thing. It is going to need a class 2 scan tool connected to it to go any farther. I will post the code chart from the book below so you can see what I am talking about. About all you can do from this point your self, would be to maybe pull the trim pad on the door and look for any obvious problems like broken connections or wires, etc. The system works through the park switch for the transmission, the power door lock circuit, the remote door lock circuit and on and on. So, without the special test equipment like the dealer has, you could chase things for a long time and replace a lot of parts that would cost money and maybe fix it and maybe not. I am afraid this is one of those times when it will be cheaper to have it checked out professionally than to try to repair it at home. Trust me this is not what I was wanting to tell you. But if it is giving you a no problem found code, there isn't much more you can do. Sorry. Let me know what you decide or if there is anything else I can help you with. Thanks

Thanks for everything. I really appreciate it. I guess I'll just run it into the ground without the PSD. Did I mention it leaks oil (bad gasket) and coolant (from an unknown spot)? It's all good.

Happy weekend.

Answer

Just wanted to say thanks for the accept, really appreciated. Sorry I couldn't do you more good or it wasn't a nice easy fix. But if it gets too bad with the oil leak or the coolant leak and you decide to do any repairs on those, drop me a note if you need and I would be happy to help you fix those too. Good luck with the van and thanks for using JA.
