Optional Information

Optional Information:
1980 Jeep J 10

Already Tried:
when ever i shift too fast or try to shift into 4th gear it gets stuck between gears, and i have to pull the stick out of the shift tower and use a screw driver to put it back into neutral then put the stick back in. but it always gets stuck in or slips out of 4th gear.

Answer

When a manual transmission slips out of gear,or will not go into gear, there are two possibilities. 1 4th gear has rounded and worn teeth, and is pushing the shifter away from the gear instead of drawing the shift dog inward.2 the syncro has worn teeth.Either way the transmission has to be repaired, or a good used transmission could be installed. The transmissions are more than likely the same from 1980 to 1990.A call to a salvage yard will let you know how many years the transmission is interchangeable.Let me know.
