Do you have Adobe creative suite or Adobe photoshop already on your machine?
Is this a stand alone copy of Adobe or was it included with another product?

Ok,
There is a small issue I have come accross between installs of Adobe 8 and other older products, So uninstall Adobe accrobat first then reboot.
Then put the disk for Photoshop in the machine and reinstall/repair it, Then reboot and try to install Accrobat again.
If you dont have yor Photoshop disk then click start, contro panel and open Add/Remove Programs.
Select Photoshop from the list, click Change/Remove and follow the on-screen instructions to repair the installation.
