Question

I am working on a Miller furnace,manufactured by Nordyne. The furnace stopped heating the other day but the blower was still running.I checked it out the igniter was cracked so i replaced it. Still the same thing was happening. I turned the power off put the thermostat on off and tried it again, same thing.I pulled the board and put in a new one.I replaced it with a universal honeywell board. Still the same, the blower comes on no ignition.There is no voltage coming out of the board to the igniter. I checked all the safeties, all 4 of them, all of them were ok or closed. Help im going crazy i am a tech but i dont work on residential furnaces all the time. I work on commercial air handlers and such. I am trying to help a buddy out. He says he started the furnace with a flame lighter when the glow plug was broke.Now after the new glow plug and the new board stll no ignition.

Answer

Hi XXXXXX;

Does the unit have an inducer fan? If it does then the pressure sensor may be shot or there is a plug in the line. One thing you dont want to do is blow into the tube or suck on it. These are very sensitive units and doing so will ruin it.

What you want to do is check for a closed circuit for this item at the connections on the board. All units have a schematic They are located on the inside of one of the covers. Usually on the main fan cover. You can track it down using the color coded wires.

If the induction motor is not starting you need to check for a closed limit switch. Again you can track it down using the schematic.

Check these items and let me know if it starts or not and we can continue from there.

Best regards; THS
