Question

I have been talking to someone (I believe Debbie from TN) about my Bichon who has a something wrong with his eye. He has not been rubbing it or holding it shut, but it seems like he might be squinting a little bit. He also pulls away when I go to look at it. I rinsed it out with water, but this didn't seem to help (I thought maybe he had something in it). The antibiotic eye drops I have from when I had pink eye is polymyxin B sulfate and trimethoprim ophthalmic solution, USP 10 mL.

Answer

Hi,

I don't see Debbie on line, so I will go ahead and answer this.
I would use the drops ONLY if there was NO steriod in them. The steriod could be horrid IF he had a scratch that was beginnig to be an ulcer. I would put med in if there was no steroid and have his eye stained in the morning by the vet to see how deep the scratch (what is sounds like) is.

At that point he/ she will also give you somehting for pain (probably Atropine) and maybe an e-collar so he can't get at this.

I hope this helps you!!!

If you would like to list off all the ingredients so I can make sure there is no steriod, just write back.

Reply to Pat's Post: Would you suggest that I take him to the vet? I don't want to let it go and he become blind or something. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of money right now for a large vet bill. He has been playing as usual and is still his little rambuncious (sp?) as ever.

I would not take him tonight, but as I said, he does need to go in the mornig, unless he is REAMARKABLY better. The ingredients are perfect! Put a nice few drops on his eye, make sure to clean the top off well first with warm cloth.

I hope he feels better.
