Hello,
Nucleic Acid Testing for Hepatitis C Virus and HIV is to prevent donated blood containing either of these two viruses from becoming part of the blood supply and being transfused into another individual causing an infection.

A positive result could mean a problem with the test (a false positive) or it could mean the donor had HCV or HIV. The donor would be notified so that more stringent testing could be done for both viruses.
