Question

I have a flourescent light that I want to wire and hang. The light has one white, and one black wire. The electrical union box on the ceiling is what I want to wire into. The box has two white wires that are screwed into a common plate in the box (two screws), one red wire, screwed into A separate plate inside the box, and two black wires that are spliced together and cappped. Question: What wires will I splice the white and black wires from my light to? I can follow your instruction

Hi XXXXXXXXXX;

It is simple. White to the same place the white wires are connected, and the black is combined under the same wire nut as the other black wires.

I accept your instructions, but what about the 'red' wire within the union box?

Answer

It is most likely unused unless you have two switches that controll the same light.
