Question

2006 6.0 I lost heat and the engine temp climbed to 210 on my gauges. Changed thermostat and added new coolant. Everything was good for three days then no heat again. Vac pump is okay. Ipulled egr valve to clean it and it had alot of moisture on it other than carbon. Is the egr cooler bad?

Is it smokeing out the tailpipe?

661 days and 5 hours ago.

Reply

I have not seen any smoke out the tailpipe. The head gaskets were changed 15000 miles ago. There is no purging out of degas bottle. The inspection whole on the water pump is dry. When the heat goes away, if you rev up the motor the heat comes back right away. Could there be air in the system from changing the thermostat? Also the hoses to the heater core are hot When there is no heat. thanks

There could be an air pocket. You could also have a concern were the water pump fins are damaged and not moveing enough water. Also check the heater valve on the water inlet heater hose which is vacuum controlled.

The blend door actuator is electronic so I do not presume it is the fault.

Answer

The coolant level sounds fine.

You need to get the vehilce to produce no heat and then go out and manually turn the heater control valve and see if the heat comes back on indicating a concern with the valve.
