Question

A hungry, starving cat came onto property. Ate & drank well. had a seemingly lrg. lump on right side, which is now hard to even feel. gave the cat 1/2 cc of amoxicillin, cat almost immediately acted as if in pain. had one bout of very loose clear stool. Had a little diarrhea before this also. Cat was very agile, jumped, ran, but since amoxicillin, has not acted well. Also had a gurgle in abd. before antibotic, when picked up. Question - is there ever a time when an antibotic can make a seemingly well cat in actions act in pain afterward?

Hello, I think this is all a coincidence as far as the antibiotic and the symptoms that he is having at this point. Antibiotics can cause a reaction (allergic) much like they would in humans but should not show Pain. They would show other issues like vomiting loose stool, or even seizures or shaking. Acting in pain is not usually one of the symptoms at all. He may have a build up of things going on with the abscess that may have gotten into his system or other issues like internal parasites and that is why the gurgling is happened with the stomach as well. He may be getting sicker and that is why he is lethargic. If you gave an injection of amoxi to him it may have stung a little going in which can be normal in some animals that are sensitive. If you gave it orally then there could be a sore int he mouth or a possible ulcer on the tongue that may have caused it to burn or get irritated on the way down. I would just monitor him for now and if he gets worse see your vet for a further work up and possible blood work to make sure you are not dealing with internal issues of infection or anything like that. Let me know if you need anything else.
