I had placed a blanket on my horse that lives outside on Wed. Today I took it off because she has welts along her spine and about 2-4 inches down her sides. No welts are on her neck or abd. What can do to get rid of the welts or will they go away on their own.

Question

Hello,

It sounds like either the blanket doesn't fit correctly, or there were bugs in the blanket that bit your horse. In either case, you shouldn't use this blanket again until you determine why she has these welts.

Do NOT put iodine on her welts. It is much too strong for this type of use and can just create further problems. You probably don't need to do anything to the welts - they will heal on their own.

I can help more if you can give me more information:

How old is she? Is she in good health? Does she have shelter? Where are you lcoated, and what is your weather like right now? How long have you had this horse? Was she kept in this same location last winter? Did she need a blanket last winter?
