Question

One of my kitten''s eyes is starting to swell. There is pink stuff around it and it looks like he''s crying. What might be wrong?

Answer

Hi there! Unfortunately, this can be caused by numerous things:

---Chlamydia/Herpes conjunctivitis (which many are born with);
---Eye infections
---Eye injuries
---Foreign body in the eye.

As with ANY eye problem, your best bet is to see your vet tomorrow. They will take a look and decide what to do, whether that be antibiotics for you to do at home, or more extensive procedures if there indeed is something stuck in the eye itself or if there is a large ulcer or scratch on the surface of the eye. For tonight, you can wipe any discharge away with a damp, soft cloth and keep the area clean. Do not try to clean out the eye yourself. Do not use any people medicines in the eye. You could potentially damage the eye if there is a corneal abrasion (scratch) or cause further problems.

I hope this helps! Best of luck!
