Question

Ihave a 2001 ford f-150 w/4.2 v6. I am receiving a service engine code of p0171 and p0174 which is bank 1 & bank 2 running lean and the possiblities to correct problem seem endless. I have replaced the O2 sensors, fuel filter, spark plugs, PCV valve, cleaned mass air flow sensor with electronic cleaner. Any suggestion to narrow it down to a certain comeponent???

There are a couple more possibilities:

One is a bad DPFE sensor on the EGR valve plumging. Somtimes a bad DPFE sensor can under-read EGR flow, causing teh engine computer to increase EGR which has a leanign effect on the fuel mixture. A replacement DPFE sensor costs bout $100 at Ford, or about $50 at an aftermarket auto parts store.

The otehr possibility is a leaky intake manifold, a leaky intake manifold gasket, a leaky PCV hose or loose/leaky vacuum hose connection somewhere. Read the following article for help finding a vacuum leak:
