i have a 2002 v6 2.5L jaguar x type, and recently i have been seeing smoke from the mufler, i hear a rettling sound from the engine, and the power has been reduced alot to the point where sometimes i cant go above 30mph.
i changed the spark plugs a few weeks ago and while i was doing that i saw oil on the piston. can u tell me what the problem is??

Well,If you are seeing white smoke out the exhaust you are having oil burning problem,either the rings,valve guides,valve seals.The noise you here is lifter noise or could be piston wear noise from the result of either excessive internal wear and or a weak oil pump.The check engine light could be 02 sensor creating black smoke sending false signal to computer to run rich.the power loss could be internal wear of the engine,faulty sensor,or weak fuel pump.In any case it sounds like it really needs to be checked out before resulting in further damage.thanks for your question.Roger

You need to find a ase certified shop that you trust and get a second opinion on what is wrong.It is hard for me to diagnose completely without being there physically to look at it.But from what i am hearing it could be internal.Now you could have blown head gasket for the smoke out the exhaust,the tapping could be exhaust manifold cracked or gasket.So there is some variables but i would have it checked soon before any more damage is done.Roger
