Question

We have a 2 yr. old chocolate lab. He has scraped the front of his leg and it is not healing properly. We have been applying R-7 anti-septic spray 2 to 3 times daily. He is constantly licking on it, and it stays real red and looks inflamed. Could you tell me is there any other medication we can get that will help?

Hello;lo, keeping him form licking it will be the big thing and will speed up the recovery. Every time your dog licks the area he is introducing more bacteria to the cut along with taking or destroying tissue that is trying to rebuild itself. I would suggest keeping him form licking th area by either applying an elizabethan collar or placing a sock or something over the leg to keep him form getting to it. You can clean the area a few times a day with antibacterial soap and then apply some neosporin to it as well to keep it from getting infected. If however it does not heal still then you should see your vet as the area may need to be granulated so that the new tissue can heal faster. Hope this will help but if you need anything else be sure to let me know.
