Question

I have   an 18 year old male cat.   He was diagnosed with beginning stages of kidney decease. We managed to get that under control with meds and special food. He has been loosing a lot of weight and I noticed he had blood in his urine couple of months ago. They gave him some antibiotics and since it was not going away they did and ultrasound. After many many test they found some tumors and they did a biopsy. He was diagnosed with reactive follicle....
They did not find cancer however there is a possibility. They are treating him with heavy doses of prednisone. His appetite is coming back but he is down to 7 lbs from 18 lbs. He is still have blood in his urine. The vet said the tumors were shrinking. After thousands of dollars on tests and meds I still don''t feel he is getting better. Am I being unrealistic trying to keep him alive? I do not want to torture him.   By the way he is being hydrated by me. I would pay whatever it takes to make him well. I''m just not sure that im doing the right thing.

Thanks

Reply to Artemis Platz's Post: he had one in his intestines and the other near the bladder. He eats small amounts thru out the day. He is not very active. Once in a while he will walk around but for the most part he sleeps

Thank you for that information. How much prednisone is he on, and when did he start?

Have you noticed any improvement since the medication?

Is he continuing to lose weight?

Do you know what his kidney values (BUN and creatinine) are?

Thank you

Artemis
