Unfortunately yes. You are in a periodic tenancy. All that is required is that you are given proper notice. Thirty days is the standard amount of notice that must be given. If you have no written agreement with these people, then they can make you leave for any reason as long as the thirty days notice is given. Next time that you rent a place, make sure there is a written agreement as to how long the rental will be.
