It is entirely possible that you have burned or irritated the sensitive tissues of the esophagus; this is possible just as it is possible to burn the mouth or tongue on something hot : ) This should resolve on it's own in a few days (avoid spicy, hot or irritating foods in the meantime and control stomach acid reflux with something you are able to take like Tums to prevent furthur irritation of the area of compromised integrity- ensure that you are able to take antacids before you take these because this can be contraindicated with some other medications or conditions). However, if this pain does not resolve or show signs of getting better, if the pain gets worse, if at any time you cough up pink or red blood or something that looks like coffee grounds or if you have any changes in your breathing then you do need to go to the emergency room immediately.
I hope this is helpful to you; please remember to press ACCEPT and feel free to contact me if you have anything to add.
