Pixels are individual dots. Vectors are lines. This means that an image that is made up of pixels (usually called a bitmap graphic) has a color associated with each dot of the picture. If you want to resize the image, the dots must become bigger or smaller and so you lose some quality. An image that is made up of the mathematical equations of lines (usually called a vector graphic) can be scaled by applying a matrix transformation to the equations for the lines and so there is higher quality when resizing the image.
