Question
Generally, how old should a puppy be before being taken for walks in public parks where lots of dogs get walked? Yesterday we were walking around a local lake and saw several YOUNG puppies being walked (7-12 weeks). What is the current thinking on this matter? I always thought a puppy''s immunity wasn''t ready for such socialization until 4-6 months, what about ages for participation in puppy training programs? Thanks.

Accepted Answer
In general, a puppy should have its full set of vaccinations before being socialized -- that is usually completed by around 16 weeks of age. Your thinking is correct, that any social benefits derived from earlier socialization is offset by the risk of catching a potentially life-threatening illness.
