Hi, welcome to Just Answers,

  • What model BMW is this?
  • Is there any piece of the cable still there?

Reply to RIP's Post: It is a 325i two door. The handle that is used to pull the hood broke off, however there is still a piece of metal sticking out and I believe that there is piece of cable as well.

Accepted Answer

Great, you can cut the sheath back a little to expose more of the actual cable and than use a pair of dikes to grab the cable and pop the hood open..once it's open I would immediatly replace the cable and handle. Otherwise getting these open can be VERY difficult.

If for some reason that does not work, is there any other way to open it?

Answer

The only alternative is to sacrifice the front grill there and access the latch...you can flip the small lever on the back of the latch with a long screwdriver and the hood will pop open. This may be best left to a body shop...the cable is the best place to get at if you still have some left; but if the latch is frozen or damaged from a previous accident...it may be all the more difficult to get released.

Answer

No problem, see if you can get it open..if your still having trouble let me know. Also, try lubing the front latch and hook area with WD-40.

Reply to RIP's Post: Hi you recently answered a question one of my questions about opening the hood of my BMW 325i. Unfortunatley my dad broke the cable off completely. He now seems to believe that the access latch is not located in the front and that the hood of this model open from back to front as opposed to more modern cars that open form front to back. Is this the case, or is there a way to open it from the grill as you previously informed me?

Is this a BMW 325i, 325e, or 325?
