Question

My Yorkie puppy has been scratching his ear since last night. He doesn't have ear mites..he has scratched it so much he cries when he scratches now. It has become sensitive to the touch. Can I use eardrops that my 8 year old son had for ear infection?

The problem is you don't know whether this is bacterial or fungal. The antibiotic drops will be too strong and may not even work for your little dog. I would recommend making a solution of 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water and clean out his ears with this. You can fill the whole ear canal with it, massage at the base of the ear, and then let him shake. You can then wipe away the excess. You can also give him benedryl at a dose of 1mg per pound to help decrease the itch and get him to relax some.
