There are loud popping noises in the pipes. The noise occurs when ever the heat comes on. It can occur in different places in the house, especially on the third floor. I had a radiator placed on the third floor because there was no heat up there. I have not tried anything because I don't know what to do.

The information is good but the viedo doesn't help me. I need to see the radiators that were uses in older homes. I live in a 1927 tutor style home. The radiators are original to the house and time.

Answer

There were many different radiators installed over the past 80 years. Getting a video of the radiator exactly like the one you have would most likely be impossible. The video and information I provided was for reference. The radiator may look different but the information is applicable. There is a bleeder valve at the top end of every hot water radiator that will have some way to open it to get the air out of the system. Have something to catch the water that comes out before you get the valve turned off. On a older radiator you may have several coats of paint that will need to be removed to access the valve. These valves can go bad in time and may need to be replaced. Bleed the radiator that is at the highest point in system Loosen the valve until you have a steady stream of water coming out. Proceed bleeding all radiators on that level and work your way down to the lower level.
