Question

My son recently received a Panther Chameleon from a friend who although is still drinking water, has not eaten within the last week. My son has purchased a heat lamp for the cage but has no humidifier. Should we purchase a humidifer and replace the plastic trees with real trees, and if so which trees are best. Also, should we purchase a humidifier for the cage? Lastly, is there a way to force-feed a chameleon?

Hello,

The Chameleon needs between 60-85% Humidity and you should have a good Hygometer to be sure of the amount of humidity in the Viv. You should have a UVB light source min 10.0 Reptigo, as well as a UVA. The basking area should be at 95*F and a gradient temps of 75*f-90*F. The live plants you could try include pothos, hibiscus, and dracaena. Artificial plants may also be used, and artificial vines are great . A good selection of branches (of different diameters) should be provided, making sure there are secure at different levels and temperatures within the cage. The humidifier or dripper would be great. Make sure you are dust all prey with calcium and vitamins 2 x's a week. try other live prey if the crickest are not working. You can try butter worms, silk worms, roaches, and wax worms on a limited basis. It will sometimes take about a week of settling to get the Panther to eat so give him space. They are more to be looked at that a pet that can be handled. Joan

Reply to Jav917's Post: We don't know what the cage temp is.
The humidity temp is 45.
We feed him crickets and mealworms.
We have a UVB bulb.
Although we haven't given him calcium for awhile, we have the crickets dusted periodically.
No other suppliments given.
