I am installing a Honeywell RTH6500WF

Customer Question

I am installing a Honeywell RTH6500WF Thermostat which requires a wire labled "C" . I do not have that wire . The AC Heating Unit is a Payne Model xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Could I connect the wire I need for the "C" Connection at the thermostat to the "Com " Terminal in the furnace ?? Jerry

Hello there. My name is ***** ***** you can call me Norm.
If you have an extra wire in your wire bundle behind the thermostat you can use that wire to connect to "C" at the thermostat. Then go to the furnace and remove the doors. With the power off, find the wire that you just connected to the thermostat "C" terminal and connect that same wire to "C" on the furnace control board.
When done make sure the doors are re-seated well and fire it back up. You should then be good to go.
I will be standing by as you work to answer any questions you may have. I'm here to help!
If you find that your problem is solved please remember to rate your service before closing out the request window. Thanks so much!

Norm :
There is no "C" terminal on the furnace .
The question was: Is the "COM" Terminal in the furnace the same as a "C" Terminal ??

Everything appeared to be ok ----- The blower comes on but neither the AC Condersor unit or the furnace come on.
I checked all of the connections : Then removed the new thermostat and reinstalled the old one: The AC unit then produceed cold air like it should .The only difference between the wiring is the new one uses the "C" wire which I had connected.Since the old thermostat works ok, it must have been a bad connection at the "Y" wire or a defective Thermostat.
I will try the new one later and make sure and make sure the "Y" wire is properly connected.
ANYTHING ELSE ?????
Thanks
Jerry

With a new honeywell thermostat it should have an installer setup mode which is described in your installation manual, near the back. It will tell you how to enter the setup and choose your system type along with lots of other options. I would first make sure the system type is set to the correct setting to match your equipment type. See pages 24 then 48 of the guide found at the below link. Copy and paste it into your browser address bar.
