I can't get my new hp 6968 printer to work. There is an Ethernet cable coupling the printer to my laptop, I earlier indicated that the connection was to be wireless. My phone number is(###) ###-####
JA: Can you guesstimate how old your HP is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: I purchased the HP Officejet Pro 6968 printer two days ago.
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: Dell laptop with Windows 10.
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: During my attempt to set up the printer. Just after the software was loaded into the printer.
JA: Is there anything else the Printer Technician should be aware of?

You cannot use an ethernet cable for this purpose.

You could use a usb cable for a wired connection,

otherwise you'd use ethernet from the printer directly to your router, which gets it onto your home network.
Then when you go through the install process, which you'll have to do again, you'd choose network printer (not local).

Or if you want to reinstall as a usb based printer, you'd choose local then.
