I have a HP Office Jet Pro 8630. The ink cartridges have just been replace with HP products. The K message black ink is saying it needs replacing still and wont work
JA: Can you guesstimate how old your OfficeJet is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: less than 1 year
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: pc
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: the catridge message just said need replacing so I bought them online and waited for them to arrive
JA: Anything else you want the printer expert to know before I connect you?

The first thing to do here, is to RESEAT the ink cartridge.

Can you please take the Black Ink cartrideg out and make certain all the tape has been removed from the cartridge.

The reinsert it back into the printer.

Okay, normally there is tape protecting the electrodes of the ink cartridge.

Are you 100% sure there was no tape or plastic on the ink cartridges?

If not, thats okay.......I just want to be sure.

I am sure. To be honest, I was surprised too but they were in HP packaging

Okay....your using the XL version of Ink cartridges.....which should be Okay.....

Its also possible to get a DOA black ink cartridge....it sucks.....and hard to know, unless you can get ANOTHER different one to make sure.

Try this.

Insert the Black into the printer again.

Then power the printer off..........pull the power cord......wait for 1 minute, plug back in....power back on.

Does the error say its low ink......or is it the same error in the image you sent over?

The error message you sent over relates to the fact that the Black isnt even installed.

Which would mean, its broken......not functioning.....DOA.

When the ink cartridge is broken, and can not communicate with the printer electrically (all ink cartridges have a PCB and comm's) the printer des NOT say that specifically.....it only says that its not installed......to make you replace it.

No matter what the issue is......the printer will always say its not installed if the cartridge is broken in some way.

What does the printer say when you put the OLD cartridge back in?

If the OLD cartridge works but just says its low....and the NEW cartridge says theres nothign installed (error message)

Then yes.....the NEW black cartridge is DOA (dead On Arrival) and needs to be replaced.

This is unfortunate, as you did just buy it.....but thats what returns and exchages are for.
