Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Did you receive that?
Expert:  Kevin T replied 11 days ago.

Do you get any error messages when you scan? S/N didn't find anything onlien with scanning errors..

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
it said "an error occurred while communicating with the scanner."
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Restarting the mac and the Lexmark does not help on this.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I even tried using the USB cable, but no help.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Hello, I am pleased to have the opportunity to assist you. My name is ***** ***** I can help you solve your problem. What is your computer operating system?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I found one site that talked about using the printer to download some kind of 3-digit acronym software, but I don't see a way to do that. The driver used for the printer should be able to do the scanning.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
mac OSX 10.7.5
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Losing the scanner connection is a common problem with wireless connections. Wejust need to reinstall the printer drivers. But it must be don correctly. I can give you detailed directions to follow.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
ok
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Here is the installation procedure. Each step must be done in the order given in order for the process to work. This thorough method that I have developed, always works. First, please do the following:

Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Do you have other working printers installed on your computer?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
no
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Just the same printer's fax driver.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Reset Printing System - If there are no other printers installed on the mac, the printing system should be reset, in order to guaranty a clean installation. Use Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen to select System Preferences. Open the Printers & Scanners window. Hold the CTRL key down and user the select button on you mouse to click anywhere in the left side of the printer window. Then select Reset Printing System on the menu.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
the two drivers are the printer and it's fax.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

You can remove them both. This should happen automatically when you reset the printing system. If it doesn't, you can leave the fax icon there.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
done. both are gone
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Uninstall Printer Software - Use Finder to open the System Preferences > Applications folder and locate the subfolder for your printer. Drag the entire folder into the Trash folder.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
done
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Restart Computer System - Use the Apple icon to restart your computer operating system. You can rejoin this conversation by selecting the link in your notification email.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I'm back
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Great! Good jo.

Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Download Printer Software - Select the following link to download the Full Feature Printer Software and Driver package for your printer and operating system:

Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Good job. Please wait until I locate your drivers on the Lexmark website.

Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

It looks like there are separate printer drivers and scanner drivers. Here is the link to download and install the print driver:

http://support.lexmark.com/index?docLocale=en_US&page=content&segType=recommendedSegmentOS&id=DR23161&locale=EN&userlocale=EN

Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Install Printer Software - If you do not see a Run button, use your Finder to locate the downloaded printer file in the Downloads Folder. Use the select button on the mouse to select the heading on the Date column and sort the download files by date, so that the required file is at the top of the list. Select the file to open it, and follow the prompts to install the software.

Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Here is the link to the scanner driver:

http://support.lexmark.com/index?docLocale=en_US&page=content&segType=recommendedSegmentOS&id=DR23337&locale=EN&userlocale=EN

Please download and install this driver too.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Still working on the printer driver. The Assistant wants to know if I'm installing for the first time.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I'll select I'm installing on a new computer.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
my printer is already set up".
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
right?
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
the two radio buttons are 1) new computer and printer is set up 2) first time.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Which one?
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Since you could print before, your printer is set up. Select 1).

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Now waiting for the print driver to show up on the Add Printer screen.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
As I recall from the last time I went through this, it takes a minute for the printer to show up.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Okay.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Or maybe I need to switch from the Default tab to the IP tab, when I can select from a list of drivers.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Give that a try.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
agreed. It has Lexmark and Lexmark fax
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Go for Lexmark. You might have to return and select fax too.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Well, it completed and closed. Let me see if I can reopen for fax.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Ok, the fax is installed, now for the scanner.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Right on.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I'll bet this is where I went wrong on my own. The scanner driver is installed, but how do I add it?
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Can you open the IP tab the same way you did for the print driver?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
but when I look for the scan driver, it is not in the list. I still just have the printer and the fax.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
That list includes drivers for other printers, so I don't think my installation affected it. I'll bet the list was already there.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I'm getting to the list by going to Preferences... Print & Scan (where it shows one printer and one fax only, since I added them from the list.)
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Then Options&Supplies... where I can hit the "+" sign.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Here are the instructions in the Release Notes from the Scanner download page:

Installs a scan driver that will enable the user to scan in Apple's Image Capture application on Mac OS X running 10.6.8 and later Mac OS. Instructions: 1. Download the file. 2. Double-click on the file to mount as a disk image. 3. Open the disk image. 4. Double-click the installer icon to begin installation.

Did you do all of the above?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
once for each driver.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
After the "+" sign, I go to the IP tab, select IPP, and the list loads so I can select that option.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Too bad the list has no scanner. So, perhaps the scanner was loaded somewhere else.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
34;Lexmark" has not reappeared in my Applications folder.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Running the downloaded Imagecapture again.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

How do you initiate the scans, from the printer or from the computer?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
The computer.Ok, the Imagecapture re-ran. I see it now in Finder, under Devices!
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
But when I run the device.pkg it just installs again.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
The Print & Scan window still just shows the same printer and fax, but no way to add a scanner.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
The installer reported success. So, where is my driver?
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

What do you see in Finder - Devices?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Pro 200-S500 Series
Lexmark Image Capture Driver
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

What do you mean by running it in device.pkg?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
When I open the Image Capture device, I see it has only one file: not device.pkg (which was approximating) but Lexmark_ICADriver.pkg
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

That file is not a user interface. You may not see a separate scanner icon in Printers & Scanners. You should open the printer software icon on your desktop and go to the scanner section.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
The icon I think you mean is the one I used to install the drivers.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Unfortunately, those didn't seem to do anything I can find, like adding a permanent icon, or an app, or adding a driver to the Print & Scan window.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
They did claim they completed successfully, whatever that means.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

No, I am taking about application software that should have been installed on your desktop when the drivers were installed.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
The icon the installers produced appeared in a window.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
By "on your desktop" do you mean where the picture of the galaxy is? Or, in Finder under Desktop?
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Of course, in Finder Desktop, you won't find any icons.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Just file names.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Either place. Use your Finder to look for Lexmark application software.

Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Not looking for icons. Try to open the names.

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
If I search for "Lexmark" there is not much there that's promising.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I do find "Lexmark 1200 Series" and "Lexmark Fax Solutions"
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
34;Lexmark Troubleshooting"
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
that's a pdf)
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Hey, there is an Image Capture under Applications.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
When I run it, "no camera or scanner is connected"
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.

Good!

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
I'll try restarting the printer.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
No luck.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Back to where I started, with the same error msg.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Image Capture does run, and shows a window with the printer shown, but has the comm. error.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Well, I'm bushed. Thanks for trying.
Customer: replied 11 days ago.
Good night.
Expert:  JKalman replied 11 days ago.
