My Cannon MG 2520 printer is flashing the 5BOO code.
JA: Has your Canon done this before? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: no it has not and about 3 years old???
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: PC and not sure
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: it had been saying the ink absorbers were almost full...then yesterday it just wouldn't print and is flashing this error code

As you have seen an error message related to Waste ink absorber already, so that means the error code also indicates towards that. Now, the job of the waste ink absorber or purge unit is to collect the dripping ink from the cartridges after a print job, so that the ink do not damage any spare of the printer. The best solution for this problem is replacing the waste ink absorber pads from any repair shop, but before that you can try the steps below to reset the error code, if it works then, you can use the printer for few more days, but ultimately you have to change the pads.

  1. Make sure the printer is turned off.
  2. Press and hold the Resume button (triangle inside a circle).
  3. Whilst it is held down, hold down the Power button. ...
  4. Keep the Power button held down. ...
  5. Release the Power button.
