Because something snapped off, the printer will require servicing. Unfortunately, the printer is not under warranty and it may be costly to repair the printer.
In this case, if you have inspected everything and it still asks for the ink cartridge, then it would be best to get a new printer that is under warranty.
Repair can cost just about the same as a new printer.
