Customer Question

I have a canon mp560 series printer and a hp laptop with windows 10. I can scan with the cannon mp navigator, but cannot use the OCR function. I get a "cannot start the application" message when I scan for OCR. I have reinstalled the software and drivers but still cannot get it to work. I noticed there was no twain folder in the System32 folder.
JA: Can you guesstimate how old your HP is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: It's a couple of months old. I am not sure where to find the model information.
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: PC. as I said, windows 10
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: it occurred when I changed computers
JA: Anything else you want the printer expert to know before I connect you?

Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

What Windows 10 type do you have the 64-bit System Type, or the 32-bit System Type?

And also, is the printer/scanner installed as a USB-connected printer/scanner, or as a networked or wireless printer/scanner?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I have a 64 bit system type
Don't know how to find out if the printer/scanner installed as a USB-connected printer/scanner, or as a networked or wireless printer/scanner
Expert:  Russell H. replied 1 month ago.

If there's a cable going to the printer from the computer

If the printer is within 6 feet of the computer

then it's a USB installation beyond doubt.

Please let me know, so that I may proceed.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Thank you. I do have a cable.
Expert:  Russell H. replied 1 month ago.

OK! Thanks for checking on that detail.

Did the SCAN OCR function ever work, with this computer?

Did it previously work with this printer-scanner, but on another computer?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No the scanner OCR function never worked on this computer. Yes it worked on the previous computer.
Expert:  Russell H. replied 1 month ago.

Did you install the printer, onto this computer, from a disc, or from a download, or did you just connect the printer to the computer with a cable and it worked?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I installed it from the disc provided but it hasn't worked on this computer
Expert:  Russell H. replied 1 month ago.

Good.

Does the disc mention Windows 10, on its label? or only other Windows versions?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
It has M1.3 . no windows ID

This model of printer, on Canon's website, has downloads listed for the

MP Driver

(which may or may not include scanning function)

and also a download for the

MP Navigator EX

program, which manages scanning.

Would you be willing to try an uninstall of what the disc installed for this printer, followed by a restart of your computer, followed by a re-install, from the Canon website, of the MP Driver and then the MP Navigator EX program? that has a chance of getting OCR scanning working. (Your disc probably does not have Windows 10 drivers on it. So it may not have installed properly, as to all the functions.)

If so, let me know, and I will give you exact instructions that will have the maximum likelihood, when followed, of producing a favorable result.
