I recently moved and had to purchase a new Netgear Router

Customer Question

I recently moved and had to purchase a new Netgear Router and my MX860 cannot print wirelessly with my iMac as it had in the past. I need help to have it print wirelessly.
JA: What's the make/model number of your printer? How old is it?
Customer: My printer is a Canon MX860 and it is probably about 4 or 5 years old.
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: Mac with the OS as X El Capitain Ver. 10.11.6
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: This has been an issue since the new router was installed, about a month ago
JA: Anything else you want the printer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: Apple care said that the Canon printer can be configured to wirelessly communicate with my iMac by manipulating settings on the printer screen. I found LAN settings, but I don't know how to configure. My Netgear Password ***** ***** 254

Hi,

I'm sorry about the issue. When you go to the LAN settings option on the printer, then what do you see next? Do you see the Wireless / WLAN option, etc.?

Please reply at the box below. Thank you,

If you can't tell me how to set setting for my printer to communicate wirelessly through my router, then I don't want to pay any more money

Yes, I can tell you how to set the settings on your printer. Did you see my last reply?

On your printer, please select WLAN settings, then let me know what it shows next. Thank you,

Choosing WLAN settings results in a window that shows:

Please use the arrow buttons to to scroll up / down to see more network names. thank you.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
There are no other network names on the screen
Expert:  Viet - Printer Tech replied 4 months ago.

If your computer is wireless, please click on the Wireless / signal icon located at the top of the computer's screen, and confirm the network name that is connected / checked there. Thank you,

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
The wireless signal icon at the top of my computer screen shows NETGEAR 23-5G
Expert:  Viet - Printer Tech replied 4 months ago.

At the screen "Connection Inactive SSID Netgear", can you press the arrow buttons to see if it shows more network names?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I have been up and down that window on the printer and there are no other network names. There is an option under CHANGE WLAN/LAN, however, I don't want to change from wireless to wired and when I change in this setting I get
Wireless Lan active and when I highlight it, I don't get WLAN active
Are you very familiar with this printer?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Perhaps I would be better to call Canon
Expert:  Viet - Printer Tech replied 4 months ago.

Yes, I'm familiar with all Canon printer models. That is strange. It should let you set to WLAN active. Let's try the WPS (wi-fi protected setup / wireless) option. Please click on the website below for full instructions/ illustrations:

Please let me know. Thank you,

There is no WPS option
Expert:  Viet - Printer Tech replied 4 months ago.

Sorry, that page is from the Canon website; it's strange. So on the printer, you press the Menu button

, then you use the Left / Right buttons to select Settings, then press OK button

, then select option LAN setting, then press OK

, then select Change wireless / wired, then press the OK button.

, then select Wireless LAN active, then press the OK button.

, then select Wireless LAN settings, then press the OK button

, then it does not show the WPS setting? What are the options here?

Please let me know. thank you,

Expert:  Viet - Printer Tech replied 4 months ago.

What are the options you see after selecting the option "Wireless LAN settings"?

- Also, if you'd like to, I can connect remotely to your computer, then I can connect the printer with your netgear router's wireless connection through your computer for you. I can access your netgear router through your computer and get it to talk with your printer.
