I'm sorry about the issue. Do you have a desktop or laptop?

With the camera powered on, when you connect the camera's USB cable from the camera to the computer, does it show anything differently on the camera's screen? Does it show the camera device on the Desktop screen on the computer, and/or in Finder on the computer?

Laptop. I have been using an SD card reader, hooked to the computer's USB port. The computer says the material on the memory card is not readable.

Do you still see the photos on the SD card when the SD card is inserted to the camera?

The pictures on the SD card all appear on the screen of the camera.

I also have a Canon SX 40 is; using the SD card reader with pictures taken by it is no problem--they load routinely.
