Click start, right click on 'Computer' and click properties. It should tell you what version of Windows.

Ok, click start, then search for 'Scan', the first search result should be 'Windows Fax and Scan'. Click on it, when it opens choose 'New Scan'. Does it tell you there are no scanners detected?
