I have a 2008 HP Photosmart "All in One" Printer (C4200).

Customer Question

I have a 2008 HP Photosmart "All in One" Printer (C4200). After 5 months of laying dormant I have installed new cartridges (the old ones having been removed when not in use), checked for paper jams and USB connections. When plugging into my MacBookPro the printer says I am" not connected." My computer recognizes my printer, tells me to resume printing and then declares I am "not connected". The printer grabs my 20 lb. paper and grinds it up as it trys to copy a document. I clear the paper, replace it and am told there is no paper in the printer. It is very angry. What to do? ?????
It was working just fine in May.

Sorry,I have been away fro my computer. The version I have is Yosemite 10.10
I tried your printing example, the paper gobbled up two sheets, I turned off the computer, let it rest, turned it back on and was able to get it to print the test sheet. Now what to do?

please follow the below steps

turn off printer and unplug printer usb cable from computer

on computer, from apple menu, click on preferences, print

click on hp printer icon and click on - sign to delete it

once done turn on printer and connect the usb cable to computer

Sorry, Holiday interruptions. Followed all your points without trouble. Tried to print document and the paper was gobbled up again. Tray nicely loaded, carefully. It claims there is "paper" What now? Never has been so troublesome.

First of all would like to wish you a very Happy New Year

if the paper is jamming, insert only few sheets and try a print

if still the same remove paper and clean the paper trays with soft cloth and blow air near the rollers

then once again try a print

let me know how it goes

also it would be easier if you could let me know your time zone and what times you will be online so that we can troubleshot this issue on a real time basis
