Try restarting the computer (and turning Off the printer for about 2 minutes) then send a *really* simple test print, from the simplest application you have, e.g. TextEdit. MS Word is comparatively complex, has its own settings, etc., so it is not a really good basic test printing application.
How new is the printer?
Is it directly attached with a USB cable, or is it networked?
Did you connect the printer up before installing the driver from the Canon website? or after?
