Customer Question

I just bought a Canon MF 5980dw printer scanner.
It is all set up wirelessly, and the drivers for the printer and scanner installed, but the scanner is not working. When I try to scan directly on the printer, it does not scan either.

Let's try preview instead:
In the Applications folder or from the Dock, click Preview.
From the Preview File menu, select Import from Scanner.
Select your printer from the list. The details of the scan display.
If a 'Software for this device is not installed' message displays after you select your printer, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
Click Show Details to view scan settings and options.
Make sure that you select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feeder mode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan.

So, now what?
Expert:  Robert M. replied 2 years ago.
Hi, I'm Robert and I'll be helping you with your printer question.
will the printer make a copy directly from the printer ?
If it wont do that than there is a problem with the scanning period and you need to return the printer as defective
If it will make a copy than you need to re install it
the computer really sees the scanner and the printer as two separate devices that happen to be in the same place. you can have one installed correctly and the other not
delete the scanner from the scanner section
then install it again using the canon drivers
after those are installed you may still need to add it again in the scanner section there is a little plus sign on the bottom of the window that will let you add it and it should show up immediately as a possible scanner to install
