My Canon MP160 is giving me a E3 error message and there is no paper jammed in the printer. I have pushed the black print button and even turned it off and back on and still get the same error message

Lets see if we can get you back up and running again. Try this first and see if it helps
Turn off the printer and then unplug it from the power source.
Now press and hold the power (on/off) button for 1 minute.
Now release the button and plug the printer back in.
Turn it on and see if the error clears.

Didn't work

OK Keith, if you have not had a jpaper jam and this error just popped up the problem is the papersensor inside the printer. If the reset I gave you did not clear it then the sensor has gone bad. Replacing this sensor would involve having a shop completely take the printer apart and replace and recalibrate the new sensor. This repair on an MP160 would cost about $100 to do and a bit more if you have Canon do it.
