Canon Faxphone L170 no longer sends or receives faxes since

This answer was rated:

Canon Faxphone L170 no longer sends or receives faxes since moving to a new location. We moved to a new house and have a dedicated phone line (we kept the same fax number) but we can't send or receive faxes. There is a dial tone but we are unable to dial out.

Michelle :

Hello. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will be assisting you today.

Michelle :

First of all i would like you to do a free fax test

Michelle :

check the fax's receiving capabilities, also try calling your fax, with a common voice phone, and see if it rings and answers with the initial 'interrogation' fax tone. If that works, just hang up and let me know.

Customer:

Unable to send or receive fax. I faxed to the test site you provided (1-XXX-XXX-XXXX) and received this message:

Customer:

NG #0018 Busy/No signal

Customer:

When I call the number it just keeps ringing.

Customer:

I do get a dial tone from the fax machine.

Michelle :

did you check your line for noise or static

Customer:

When I pick up the handheld receiver on the fax machine, I get a dial tone with lots of clicking sounds.

Michelle :

do you hear static noise on the line

Customer:

No

Michelle :

ok

Michelle :

i am posting a link which has the default fax settings

Michelle :

check all the settings as per the list and then try the fax

Customer:

That's the page from my owner's manual. I have already checked all of those setting.

Michelle :

all the settings are correct

Customer:

yes

Michelle :

please check the receive mode option

Michelle :

  1. Manually send via the handset

Load the document in the ADF.

  2. Press <Fax>.
If you are already in the Fax standby mode, you can skip this step.

  3. Adjust any necessary settings for your document.

    • Press <Image Quality> to select the fax resolution.

    • Press <Exposure> to select the scan density.

  4. Pick up the handset.

  5. Dial the other party's fax/telephone number.

  6. Talk through the handset to the other party.
If you hear a high-pitched signal instead of the other party's voice, go to step 8.

  7. Ask the other party to set their fax machine to receive faxes.

  8. When you hear a high-pitched signal, press <Start> and then hang up the handset.
