Hi, I have a Brother MFC 9420cn that is 3 years old. I have been getting faded white vertical lines on my colour prints for some time. I have newish toner cartridges and they look fine. I have tested the printouts using black on Cyan, Black on Yellow and Black on Magenta to see if it was one of the colours. Howeve all three printouts had the same faded vertical lines. The printer has only printed out 15500 sides so I don't think it is the fuser. Do you have any othe suggestions?

welcome, there are a few things that may cause the issue that your seeing. The first is a dirty scanner windows, can you open the cover and clean the scanner window first, then we will move to the next step?
You may respond to me by filling in some text below, then press the REPLY button one time
The scanner window is perfectly clean. I can tell you this lines only appear on the colour printing. The black and white is perfect
have you recently replaced all your color toners?
Within the last 6 months.
They are well within their normal life and are originals
there is a small blue tab on the printer drum that you will need to slide back and forth about 15 times, if you can successfully do this, it may prevent you from having to replace the drum
Can you explain how I do this?
do you know how to access the drum?
I have the printer instructions open from the Brother site but it does not say anything about a drum, only a fuser and belt cartridge!
be right back
yes it is the belt cartridge, go ahead and remove it, and clean it using all the instructions located here http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/as/sg/en/faq/faq/000000/000300/000016/faq000316_001.html?reg=as&c=sg&lang=en&prod=mfc9420cn_all you can clean it yourself or have it professionally cleaned. But right now, I believe this is at least one of the items causing us problems
OK I have found and taken out the belt cartridge.
you will essentially use a dry cotton cloth to clean the belt cartridge , here are all the steps will diagrams http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/faq/faq/000000/000200/000073/faq000273_001.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=hl2700cn_all there are also instructions for cleaning the exit and transfer rollers which are also causing the verticle lines to appear on your print outs!!!
OK, I will try this. It will take some time so I don't expect to hold you on the line. How do I contact you again if this does not clear the problem?
just check your email , I will send you a few messages, or you can bookmark this page, OR, here is a direct link to me http://www.justanswer.com/printers/71fsx-hi-brother-mfc-9420cn-years-old.html

Hello again,
I followe the instructions in the link you sent. Even though this was not for my printer it worked pretty good. The small roller that could be removed from the belt cartridge was really dirty and has some light score marks on it that looked to match the faded areas of the colour prints. I clean this with a soft dry cotton cloth and also the rest of the inside of the printer. The prints are not perfect but much much bette now and there are no faded areas but some very light lines which probably match the scores on the belt drum roller. You seem to have fixed my problem, thank you.
Kindly provide me a happy rating so I may be compensated for helping you! Thank you again
