I have seen this issue many times, you need to clean the ADF following the steps below:

Clean the glass strip in the ADF

  1. If the product is not already off, press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product, and disconnect the power cord from the product.
  2. Remove any originals from the document feeder tray.
  3. Open the scanner lid.

  4. Open the ADF cover, and lift the ADF mechanism.

  5. Lightly dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with a mild glass cleaner.
  6. Gently clean the glass strip inside the ADF, and then thoroughly dry it to prevent spotting.

  7. Lower the ADF mechanism, and close the ADF cover.
  8. Close the scanner lid, reconnect the power cord to the product, and then press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
