I have a Lexmark 805 printer. Even though all the ink cartridges are full, the printer does not print anything. It starts printing weakly in black and then continues printing but with no ink.
Optional Information: Make: Lexmark Model: 805 Already Tried: 1. Resetting printer to factory default 2. Replacing ink
Hello, and welcome to Justanswer. My name is XXXXXX XXX I will be happy to assist you.
Please let me know when you are ready.
I am ready
Are you using genuine cartridges fr your printer?
Yes. Genuine Lexmark Cartridges. The code number is XXX. I wanted to use 105 but they were not available at Fry's
Is it Lexmark Prestige Pro805?
hold pls
Sure.
it's a Prestige Pro805
From the Printer Control panel, press the Setup button.
ok
Press the Up or Down arrow buttons to scroll to Maintenance, and then press OK.
done
Press the Up or Down arrow buttons to scroll to Clean Printhead or Deep Clean Printhead and then press OK.
sorry, I scrolled up and down and didn't get any label "maintenance"
What are the options d you get over there?
there is an icon that looks like a wrench. I pressed that icon and
That is the setup icon.
After selecting the same, use the Up or Down arrow buttons to scroll to Clean Printhead.
then it came back with a menu:
Are you using a Touch Screen Printer?
paper set up
device set up
setup
etc. none of the menu items says maintenance
Do you see ink levels?
Am I missing something? Is there a physical button somewhere?
yes. it is touch screen
Do you see ink level icon?
yes I do.
all are full
Tap the same and tap on More Options.
Then, select Deep Clean Printhead.
okay, I found that. I'll go ahead
it's cleaning. It may take a while
Alright.
deep cleaning is completed but I tested it with a color picture and it only prints the greys and blacks. No color
Have you ever selected Grayscale?
I don't think I've seen a greyscale option. It does have a properties menu
that includes 1. use all available ink; 2. use only black ink; 3, use only color inks. It is set to #1
Are you using use only black ink?
No. it is set to use all available inks
if there is a grey scale control icon or choice, where is it located?
Could you please turn off the printer, remove the cartridges, unplug all its cables and wait for two minutes?
okay
everything off, disconnected, or removed. after two minutes, what do I do?
Insert the cartridges, plug in all the cables and turn on the printer.
Then, try printing anything again.
You have removed the protective cap, before installing the new cartridge. RIght?
yes. Actually, the problem started a few days after I installed a cyan and yellow cartrige.
I'm going to try to print something again.
Ok.
same old problem. prints only in blacks and grays
It is an All in One printer.Right?
yes. It can scan, copy and print, but it doesn't have a fax set-up
Please go to the link below, select Prestige Pro805 and click Download.
http://www.lexmarklabs.com/firmware/FWSelect.asp#
Download and install the firmware.
it's installing firmware now
Try printing after installing the firmware.
Have you done that?
Are you there?
I ran the firmware and it came back with a problem.
The printhead is dirty. I followed the instructions and cleaned the printhead with a soft cloth
four different times
but the error message still shows up that the printhead needs to be cleaned
Please try the instructions in the link below in order to clean the printhead.

If the issue still persists, the issue is with the print head.
If so, better replace the print head in oder to get the issue resolved.
You may purchase the print head fro the link below.

Yes, I am there and the cleaning still does not work. I tried the link to buying a new printhead.
Yes. The issue is with the printhead.
Guess what!? They are out of stock and will contact me when stock is available!
I can't wait that long!
Please wait, so that I can find another link to purchase the same.
I have found a link, however it is costlier.
becuase Lexmark does not provide replacement parts to them.
http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Lexmark-14N0700-14N1339-Printhead/dp/B004X7MF3G
wow! It is twice the cost of the one from the Lexmark website. Are there any others that are cheaper?
Otherwise, use the black prints and wait for the print head with the lexmark site.
The printer does not work at all.
It keeps saying "there is a problem with the printer" and instructs me to clean the printhead.
Please wait, let me check.
Then, after I do that and re-insert the printhead, it comes back with the exact same message

But it is not new.
I found a "new" printhead from Amazon at 49.95 but the shipping is standard which means I won't get it until late next week but I'll be out of the country by then
Please be informed that it is very difficult to get a new print head for the model.
So, you're saying it is obsolete?
I have trouble finding print cartridges for this model also
Every website saying it is discontinued.
And so is lexmark.
Okay. I used to have a canon but my roommate dropped a pencil in the machine by mistake and it broke. Maybe I should go back to canon
Lexmark has always been satisfactory but, if they can introduce a new model three years ago and then discontinue it
three years later
It is better to get a new printer instead of spending on this model.
that doesn't say much for it's integrity.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
Do you have any recommendations for a printer. I'd like to upgrade to a laser color printer, all in one,
It's not really your fault
I suggest purchasing an HP printer.
i'd like to upgrade to an all-in-one printer with copy, scan and print capability. I don't need fax capability
No, no HP
The support is good and parts are easily available.
I used to have them. Initially, they were great,
If so, Canon is the next chioce.
then the quality control of the company went down dramatically
If so, Canon is the next choice.
I bought and returned no less than three HP printers because the software did not work
and the tech support said "wait a couple of weeks"
So do you have any thing specific to recommend among Canon?
Every customer support has these type of issues.
I agree but this was a new product and HP didn't even have the software fixed when it was introduced.
Shame on them
I cannot recommend anyone from Canon.
okay.
well, Fry's electronics is down the block so I'll do some snooping today.
Thanks for all your help
All new products are coming with the latest technology.
So, it is better to purchase a printer with good specification that is valuable for money.
You are always welcome.
do you have a recommended website that does comparisons of printers and rates them?
The Canon website.
What about cross-comparisons between various printers by various companies?
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction
I do not think there is website that comprises all the latest printers.
okay, well, I guess that's all. I need to sign off now
There is websites, but not new printers.
Thank you for your time and patience.
okay. Bye for now signing off
