i have an hp color laserjet cm1312nfiMFP and my fax has stopped working.. what do i do
unplugging tele connedtion and turning off machine then turning it back on and trying to fax again... which connection do i use the top one or the one below it to plug it back in?
The proper plug on the machine to plug the phone line into, is the one labeled with an 'L' or 'Line'... not the one labeled 'phone' nor the one with a phone handset logo. The best first thing to do for a case like this, is toA. unplug the phone line from the HP, and plug it into a regular voice phone, then lift the receiver and check for a dial tone, and dial a call with it, and see if it goes through properly and you can hear and be heard. E.g. dial your own cell phone.thenB. plug the phone line back into the HP (taking care to get the jack right, as instructed above), then, using e.g. a cell phone or other phone outside your local phone system, dial in to the fax's number, and see whether it 1. rings 2. responds 3. etc.Let me know what results you get from this test.
does it effect fax capability if i need to replace the cartridges
The fax will still receive (provided it is working - which is currently in doubt) even while the cartridges are being changed, provided the machine is not powered off... the received fax will be stored in memory until the ability to print is restored, and then will be printed out or at least printable out.Let me know what results you get from the tests I proposed.
plugged in the ph got a dial tone on one w/ph icon but other one doesn't have an L but has some kind of an icon but it doesnt have a dial tone
Good - if the dial tone you got was from the HP machine itself, then it's the right plug to put the phone line in.Let me know what other results you get from the tests I recommended.
when i dial the fax # XX says incoming fax ... when i plug the ph liine back in.. & try to fax it tries to pull the fax paper thru but then the screen goes blank and the exclamation XXXX XXghts up red and it stops trying to pull the paper thru..
Relist: Incomplete answer.last question was not answered
did it still doesn't work.. now wont print either..been waiting prob an hour for reply to last question
why cant i get an answer
It sounds as if the machine jammed, when it fed the fax paper through... or possibly suffered a control malfunction. One or the other of those possibilities, I think, is pretty much certain. When you dialed the fax # XXXX a voice phone or cell phone, did the fax pick up on the call, did it answer the call and play beep tones ? or did it fail to pick up on the call? When you dial out, with the HP machine, to a voice phone, does the voice phone ring?
