Hello my name isXXXXX look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible. To further understand your issue, please let me know:1. How old the printer is and the usage it gets2. If this happened after replacing a cartridge or having a paper jam3. If you use generic or refilled/recycled cartridges4. Is the error on the printer itself, or on the computer screenThank you, XXXXX XXXXX'll have some steps for you to try based on this information
1. 6 mos. old at most.
2. Replacing cartridge
3. No
4. Printer
Thanks, you've definitely got the correct cartridges, lets take these steps:Open the printer and remove all cartridges. Sharply unplug the printer from the wall outlet while it is still on, and disconnect any cables from the back of the unit. Use a q-tip dampened with warm water to clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and in the printer. Keep cleaning until no ink comes off on the q-tip:Note: If you have a cartridge like the one shown above, you can clean around the square nozzle (item 2), but don't clean the square nozzle (item 1). If printhead is removable, take it out and wipe the contacts on it with a dry, lint free cloth:Set the cartridges aside for now. While the printer is off, press and hold the power button for 3 minutes, then release. Leave the printer off for 10 minutes. Finally, reinsert the cartridges and reconnect all cables to the back of the printer. Now while holding down the “# XXXXX 6″ keys on the printer keypad, plug the printer back in to the outlet and wait for the screen to go blank, then release the keys after you see "Part. NVM Reset" or Initializing. Follow any onscreen directions if given then see if the error is gone, please reply back and let me know if it is not.If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask! This is going to take me a while. Naturally I don't want to rate you until I see if your solution works. How long can I wait before I rate you?
Absolutely, please take your time, no need to rate me until you're satisfied and would like to close the question. Otherwise you can reply back instead if you still need help. Thanks,Bernie
Now my 95 year old mother has called and is feeling faint. What else can go wrong?? I'm going to have to leave this project and could be gone for several hours. How does that work?
No worries at all, I hope she will be ok! That's absolutely fine - To make sure you can return to me, please favorite or bookmark this page, or you can check your emails from me, in them will be a link to return to this page. Take care,Bernie
Thanks so much.
You're very welcome, talk to you later.
Bernie--I feel bad about the rating but my son who knows a lot about printers and a friend of mine, an IT, say the instructions are "absurd".
That's okay. My friend the IT, will be coming tomorrow to take care of the problem.
I see, unfortunately that negative rating goes against my record, please make sure to reply if you have questions instead of rating me (just rate me once we are done or you are 100% satisfied as I stated earlier). That being said, I do respect the opinions of your friends and family, but I'm not sure what they mean by absurd! I have worked on many printer issues as well with thousands of satisfied clients...if your ink cartridges are not recognized it may very well be that the contacts I pointed out are dirty and need cleaning as I pointed out.Did you follow the steps I gave you, or get stuck on any step?Thank you,BernieBernie K.41083.2025889236
Jarilyn, please keep me posted, I would still like to help you resolve this issue. If you have tried my steps, it may not be evident at first but there may be prepackaging tape left on the new cartridges that you forgot to take off. Please check and make sure you have pulled any tape off the cartridges and then reinsert them. Also, make sure you are inserting the black cartridge using this method: Hold the cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new cartridge into the empty cartridge slot. Make sure you push the cartridge in firmly until it snaps into place. Figure 5: Insert the cartridge into the empty slot If you are installing the tri-color cartridge, slide it into the left slot.If you are installing a black cartridge, slide it into the right slot.Close the front access door.source: http://is.gd/EaOhdAPlease let me know if you need further assistance by replying back, you can still rate me again and any positive rating (If I helped you) is appreciated.Bernie K.41083.6889749653
