Canon MX882 Trouble.Fax answers every phone call.TEL Priory mode is selected. This fax is set for voice and fax on same line.Fax is supposed to only respond to received signal. How can I get fax to respond to signals only.Gerald E Clayton XXX@XXXXXX.XXXSer # XXXXX (NNN) NNN-NNNN
Is there an answering machine on the same line as the fax? And, have you contacted your phone service provider, to set up the 'Distinctive Ring' signal for one number (the fax), and normal ring for the other number (the phone or answering machine) ? that is necessary, and is usual in this sort of configuration. If all of the above is true, then you need to set up the fax to not answer on the first ring, and the answering machine to answer one ring (or more) after the number of rings the fax is supposed to answer or pick up by.
Yes, there is an answering machine on the same line.
It is set up to answer phone after 4 rings.
My understanding is that regardless of type of answer,
pick up or answer machine, the fax should not
start unless it picks up a fax signal.
The signal should be received before fax responds.
It seems to me that the fax responds immediately
when the phone is answered.
It seems to me like it is responding as a fax only line.
But the fax is set up in TEL priority mode.
I am perplexed.

Make sure that you have set up the Canon MX882's fax receive mode function, to the Distinctive Ring mode.... this is all about how to do that:http://kbsupport.cusa.canon.com/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1011&PARTITION_ID=1&secureFlag=false&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=39270
Hi Russell:
Had ATT provide DRPD service. They provided double ring and fax
telephone number.
Cost is $7/mo.
That corrected my trouble.
I thought that I could use fax with Tel priority mode
on same line as voice and answer machine,
with no additional ATT charge or tele no.
Guess I was wrong.
Thanks for your help.
