my HP photosmart plus won't scan. When I press scan to computer, it says "try starting scan from computer. Refer to documentation for details"

no - wireless

Can you scan it from the printer previously with the wireless connection as wireless connections do not support scanning...

yes, i've been able to scan wirelessly before with same printer and same computer

windows 7 - no changes to hardware, software, settings etc that I'm aware of. One week it was no issue, the next week it gave me an error msg

Please follow the steps below and let me know if you can scan or not......

  1. Click the Windows icon , click All Programs , and then click Windows Live Photo Gallery .
    NOTE: If Windows Live Photo Gallery does not appear in the list of programs, you can go to the Microsoft Web site to download it, or try the next method.
  2. Click File , and then click Import From Camera or Scanner .
  3. Click the product you are using to scan, and then click Import .
  4. Make any desired setting changes, and then click Scan .

ok - don't have photo gallery - trying to download, wants to close IE, what happens to our communication stream if it doesn't work?

  2. Click New Scan .
  3. Make any desired setting changes, and then click Scan .
