My Canon MP530 is not communicating - Error Message says Printer

My Canon MP530 is not communicating - Error Message says:Printer properties Dialog Box Enable: Bi-directional Support - How do I turn ON Bi-directional support?

I already tried Control Panel / Printers, hardware tab - however the "properties" box is not highlighted & does not allow me to click on it to try to do this,

I looked for dialog box, but can't find it or Properties

Open Control Panel / Click on the Printer /
This will display a dialog box.
Select Menu Printer / Properties (or preferences) / Ports Tab/
Enable bidirectional support check box

I'm so sorry - I lost internet connection for the last 2 days & Verizon had to repair. I am now trying what you said, however, no box says enable bidirectional. it only says port, then virtual port - no mention of bidirectional. Should I take it back to Best Buys?
