11x-6y=21
9x+8y=43

Hi,

Since the point (0, -3.5) is given as a point on the line 11x - 6y = 21, it should be a solution for that equation.

But since it never hurts to check, substitute the values 0 and -3.5 in place of x and y respectively and check for equality:

11(0) - 6(-3.5) = 21

21 = 21

So we have confirmed that it is a solution for the first equation.

Now check the same values in the second equation:

9(0) + 8(-3.5) = 43

-28 = 43

Since this last equation is not a true statement, the point (0, -3.5) is not a solution of the system.
