Thank you for choosing JustAnswer, I am happy to assist you today. First of all i would like to sum up your concern so i can verify that i have all the information correct. Your 2011 Boxster Spyder was origonally setting a P1699 fault, and you replaced the alternator, and it is still setting the same fault, so replacing the alternator didnt effect the issue in any way.

Im sorry the previous owner replaced the alternator and battery. Since then the cars computer will show a warning or service message that says generator charging system trouble. My Porsche dealer mechanic can't cleat that out, and the Porsche computer shows the P1699 fault.Sorry for my bad communication.

Your fine, i was just clarifying to make sure i understood the situation correctly.

Did the previous owner tell you why the alternator was replaced? This is important because the most likely cause of this failure is a failed alternator, otherwise we have a wiring issue or a bad DME.

He just said that it was a bad alternator.
I did however retrieve the original alternator.
It was fried windings were burned up.
