Have 2009 911 C4S cab. Excellent car except for oil usage. Book says to expect to use 1 quart every 800 miles or so initially. However, with 48,000 miles it is still using a quart every 700-800 miles. Have had all regular inspections at dealer with no other problems. Car is close to end of warranty. Is this a problem?

No, this is not a problem. It is actually normal in modern car with high compression engine.
Many high compression engine with Solenoid hydraulic valve for camshaft control does burn a small of oil.
